AMBASSADOR ORESTE DEL RIO

Oreste Del Rio is Attorney at Law and Political Science Expert from the University of Panama.

From 2017 to 2019 Del Rio served as the Ambassador of Panama to the State of Qatar, as well as the Concurrent Panamanian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Kuwait. From 2015 to 2016, Del Rio served on the Embassy of Panama to the United Arab Emirates as Deputy Head of Mission – Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs.

From 2014 to 2015, Del Rio served on the Minister of Foreign Affairs as Director General of Foreign Policy and Director General of International Economic Relations. He is a fellow of the of the German Konrad Adenauer Stitfung Foundation, fellow of The Secretary of the State of the United States of America at the IVLP Program, fellow of the Miguel de Cervantes University of Chile and also fellow of the Fu Shing Khan University of Taiwan.

Former Ambassador of Panama to Qatar embraces Qatar's culture

Former Ambassador Oreste Sandoval first arrived in Qatar on 25 May 2017 as the Ambassador of Panama to the State of Qatar, with the mission to handle all the diplomatic relations of his home country Panama with that of the host country, Qatar. From that day onwards, he recalls, time stood still for him and his fascination with Qatar started. Oreste literally fell in love with the country and never looked back again.

Youngest ambassador to receive the Al Wajba Medal.

It was love at first sight when he landed in Qatar as the youngest ambassador about two years ago. He felt so attached that he got married in a traditional Qatari way.
Oreste del Rio Sandoval, former ambassador of Panama to Qatar, finished his tenure a few days ago. A young, dynamic and studious man, he served as the youngest ambassador of his country. 
Thirty-seven-year old Oreste’s engagement with Qatar lasted only two years but the personal bond he developed may last for a long time. He not only arranged his marriage ceremony in line with the local traditions here but also wrote a book about his experience of living in Qatar.
Community recently spoke at length with the ex-Panamanian envoy, who is also the youngest ambassador to receive the Al Wajba Medal.
